The podcast 'Mechelen, an inclusive city' is a guided audio walk through our city on the Dyle, informing listeners along the way of several Mechelen initiatives that promote diversity, equal opportunities and inclusion.
How can we all live together while respecting our diversities? Being part a diverse society is a huge asset, but it also comes with its own challenges. Mechelen has numerous initiatives and projects that work towards creating a welcoming, liveable city. Mechelen’s aim is to be an inspiring role model for other cities and towns, by demonstrating a positive attitude to topics such as diversity and inclusion.
This 6-kilometre walk will take you past the most beautiful places in the historic city centre. At 10 locations, you can scan the QR code and listen to the stories on these themes told by the people of Mechelen and the city’s key policymakers. In order to listen, you will need your smartphone, an internet connection (WiFi or mobile data) and headphones or earbuds.
In addition to the audio, you will also get background information on the main landmarks along your walk. These are marked with an asterisk on the map.
We hope you enjoy the podcast and your walk.
- Length of the walk: 6 km.
- Refreshments: You'll find local treats all along the route. The outdoor cafés on the Vismarkt lend themselves perfectly to a pit stop and city brewery Het Anker has lots of local beers on offer. If you prefer a cup of tea or coffee, Barbib in Het Predikheren is the place to be, and the cafés and restaurants on the IJzerenleen are also very pleasant.
