ASMR, de tragische dood van een vlinder, beeldreplica's van een aura, visuele ruis.
De video's ontstonden tijdens een langdurige periode van hoofdpijn, migraine en andere lichamelijke pijnen. Elke dag maakte ik lange wandelingen omdat ze me gedeeltelijk versterkten.
(ASMR is de afkorting voor autonomous sensory meridian response. ASMR is te beschrijven als een tintelend gevoel dat bij je hoofd begint en langs je ruggenmerg door je hele lichaam verspreid wordt. het gevoel wordt als rustgevend ervaren en is te vergelijken met kippenvel, maar dan in je hoofd.)

O Joan, no... begint in duisternis, abstracte duisternis. Naarmate de film vordert wordt de duisternis onderbroken door licht: theaterverlichting, straatverlichting, huishoudverlichting, het brandende uiteinde van een sigaret. De begeleidende stem laat een reeks grommen, kreunen, zuchten en lachen horen. Er gebeurt niets.

De film verkent tussenfases van uitputting en slaap, we zien slaapkamers en allerlei zaken die bij een dronkenroes opduiken, naast röntgenfoto's, huid en bolvormige vloeistoffen, sequenties die een verhoogd gevoel van binnen en buiten opbouwen, het tedere en het forensische, het sensuele beeld en de abstractie ervan.

Soft Lock is een hedendaagse fantasie – de film combineert een onbetrouwbare verteller met verwijderde ruwe beelden van scènes in een hotel. Door teksten samen te brengen uit internetfora, academische artikels, interviews uit de New Yorker en online gesprekken, ontvouwt de “ik” tot een versnipperd verhaal over veranderlijke identiteiten aan de oppervlakte.

Op uitnodiging van curator Alicja Melzacka
Een vrouw en een man wandelen door de stad. Samen observeren ze hun omgeving en blijven ze stilstaan bij scènes die ze onderweg tegenkomen. stone or waterfall is een film over kijken, taal en representatie, verteld via de choreografie van twee lichamen in een stedelijke omgeving.
Voor het tonen van de film gaan Chloé Op de Beeck en Alicja Melzacka, curator en auteur van de tekst die de filmpremière begeleidde, met elkaar in gesprek. Ze gaan in op de relatie tussen film en schrijven, en hoe taal een rol speelt in hun werk. (in het Engels)

ASMR, the tragic death of a butterfly, image replicas of an aura, visual noise. The videos came into being during a prolonged period of headaches, migraines, and other bodily pains. Every day, I went for long walks because they partly reinvigorated me.

As the film progresses the darkness is interrupted by light - theatre lights, streetlights, household lights, the lit end of a cigarette. The film stalks liminal states of exhaustion and sleep, we see bedrooms and the paraphernalia of intoxication, alongside X-rays, skin and globular liquids, sequences which build a heightened sense of inside and outside, the tender and the forensic, the sensual image and its abstraction.

Soft Lock is a contemporary fantasy - it combines an unreliable narrator with deleted rushes from scenes in a hotel. Combining texts sourced from internet forums, academic papers, New Yorker Interviews and online conversations, the “I” unravels a dispersed narrative on shifting surface-level identity.
PART 2: Screening of stone or waterfall, the latest film by Chloé Op de Beeck | 20:00

A woman and a man walk through the city. Together they observe their surroundings and pause at scenes they encounter along the way. stone or waterfall is a film about looking, language, and representation, told through the choreography of two bodies in an urban environment.
Before the screening of the film, Chloé Op de Beeck and Alicja Melzacka — curator and author of the accompanying text for the film premiere — will engage in a conversation. They will explore the relationship between film and writing, and how language plays a role in their respective practices. (In English)
